In the Hindu lunar calendar this occurs approximately every three years to align the lunar calendar with the solar calendar. 

This month is dedicated to spiritual activities, devotion, and charity, and is considered an auspicious time for religious observances and works of merit

No homa on Ekadashi (May 26th and June 11th).  Sankalpha for Ekadashi sponsors will be done on Dwadashi. Also, on Dwadashi, Pooje and Homa starts at 4:30 AM sharp
